Koraput district police achieved a major breakthrough in the ongoing Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan against narcotics.
Acting on credible intelligence, a special team raided a temporary manufacturing unit in Jholaput forest under Paduwa police limits near the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border. The raid led to the seizure of more than 1800 litres of hashish oil prepared from ganja, valued at approximately Rs 225 crore in the illegal market.
Police also confiscated equipment used in the production process. The accused managed to escape, and efforts are underway to arrest them.
In another operation, Nandapur police seized 1,143 kilograms of ganja worth around Rs 5 crore. Four accused were arrested, including two from Semiliguda in Koraput district and two from Haryana. The contraband was being transported in two Mahindra pickup vehicles.
Officials noted that traffickers are increasingly converting ganja into hashish oil, which is easier to transport in smaller quantities and fetches nearly 25 times higher value per litre compared to raw ganja. This shift reflects attempts by criminals to adapt to intensified police action.
Earlier, Chitrakonda police had seized 60 kilograms of hashish oil in one case and 2 kilograms in another, arresting six accused.
Odisha Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling illegal narcotics networks across the state. Authorities said the campaign will be further strengthened to achieve the goal of a drug‑free Odisha.
