The ongoing recruitment drive for Home Guard posts in Koraput has seen an extraordinary response, with 7,282 candidates applying for just 125 vacancies — a clear sign of the fierce competition for government-backed opportunities.
Overqualified Aspirants Join the Race
Although the minimum qualification required for the post is just a Class 5 pass, many applicants are graduates and postgraduates, underlining the growing demand for even entry-level government jobs.
Written Exam Conducted at DAV College Field
On Sunday, the written test was held at Government DAV College field, lasting 90 minutes and witnessing enthusiastic participation from candidates across the district. A large proportion of the participants were middle-aged women, whose numbers reportedly surpassed male applicants.
Officials attribute the higher female participation to the recent salary hike for Home Guards, making the job a more attractive source of steady income.
Koraput SP Rohit Verma expressed satisfaction over the impressive turnout.
“A total of 7,281 candidates applied for the Home Guard position in Koraput Police. We conducted a one-and-a-half-hour written test and are now calculating attendance figures. Results will be declared soon. The age limit is between 20 and 60 years, and we also need educated people,” he said.
The recruitment process will now move to subsequent stages following the evaluation of written exam results.
