Two people, including a woman, sustained serious injuries in a knife attack near Old Station Bazar Square under Laxmisagar police limits in Bhubaneswar late Monday night.
The victims were identified as Uday Kiran, a betel shop owner, and a woman who tried to intervene during the assault.
Kiran was closing his shop and heading home when a group of miscreants attacked him. Hearing his cries, the woman rushed to help, but the attackers turned on her as well. Both suffered deep head injuries in the violent assault.
Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to Capital Hospital for treatment. Police from Laxmisagar station reached the scene soon after receiving information and began an investigation. Officers examined CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets to identify the culprits.
Authorities confirmed that the probe will focus on tracing the attackers and determining the motive behind the crime. The incident has sparked concern among residents, who demanded stronger night patrols and swift justice.
