Britain’s King Charles III has conveyed warm greetings to President Droupadi Murmu and the people of India on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day, praising the enduring and close partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
In a letter sent on behalf of himself and Queen Camilla, the King lauded the long-standing ties between the two nations, describing the relationship as being rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and the spirit of the Commonwealth.
Shared Commonwealth Values and Global Cooperation
King Charles highlighted the important role played by Commonwealth member nations in promoting understanding, cooperation, and opportunity across the world. He noted that the organisation’s diversity and youthful energy continue to inspire progress at a time of global uncertainty.
“The Commonwealth’s rich diversity and the energy of its younger generations continue to inspire hope and progress. In these challenging times, our collective strength and unity are more vital than ever,” the King wrote.
He expressed satisfaction that nations will come together at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda in November, where leaders will reaffirm shared commitments and outline a collective vision for the future.
Commonwealth Games and Sporting Collaboration
King Charles also said he is looking forward to this year’s Commonwealth Games and congratulated India for securing the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted in Ahmedabad.
Climate Action and Sustainability Partnership
Welcoming the deepening India-UK partnership in climate action and sustainability, the King highlighted cooperation in clean energy initiatives, climate finance, clean technology, and green growth.
He praised India’s global leadership on climate resilience, particularly its role in initiatives such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
“India is a powerful global voice for this crucial cause, and our collaboration underscores a shared resolve to shape a prosperous, secure, and sustainable world,” the King noted.
Concluding the letter, King Charles and Queen Camilla extended their best wishes to President Murmu and the people of India for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
