The Khandagiri police have arrested two youths from West Bengal for allegedly attempting to abduct a minor girl in the Dumduma area of Bhubaneswar.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when the accused, identified as Gopal Majumdar and Mrityunjay Ghosh, reportedly tried to kidnap the girl after sedating her.
The duo, both labourers from Medinipur, allegedly took advantage of the girl’s unconscious state. However, locals intervened, rescuing her and apprehending the accused before handing them over to the police.
Initial investigations reveal that both accused were under heavy intoxication at the time of the incident. The minor has been sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical examination and treatment. While police have not confirmed any sexual assault, forensic analysis will be conducted to determine the facts.
Authorities are now probing the backgrounds of the accused and any possible links to similar crimes. Police urge locals to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to ensure community safety.
