The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) has held bank officials responsible for negligence in the shocking Keonjhar skeleton incident, where Jitu Munda carried his sister’s remains to a bank seeking release of her savings.
Preliminary findings revealed that the bank staff failed to act responsibly despite recognising Jitu and his deceased sister, Kalara Munda, who had visited the branch multiple times earlier. CCTV footage showed Jitu entering the bank at 11:26 a.m. and leaving at 11:58 a.m. after meeting employees four times. The manager reportedly turned him away, prompting his distressing act.
The RDC described the incident as “deeply shameful” and confirmed that both siblings had withdrawn money eight times before. He emphasised that bank negligence and delay in issuing the death certificate led to the tragedy. Officials also noted that police erred by not transporting the remains in an official vehicle.
RDC Sangram Keshari Mohapatra, Keonjhar Collector Vishal Singh, and Sub-Collector Umashankar Dalei visited the site to begin a detailed investigation. The RDC assured strict action against those responsible.
