The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani convicted a former Sarpanch and former GRS in a vigilance corruption case and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 4 years.
The convicts have been identified as Biswambar Kanhar, Former Sarapanch, Bhrungijodi GP, Phiringia Block, Dist-Kandhamal and Biswanath Kanhar, Ex-GRS, Bhrungijodi GP, Phiringia Block, Dist-Kandhamal, A/p-Asst. Teacher, Chitreswari Project Primary School, Kakatpur Block, Dist-Puri.
Biswambar Kanhar and Biswanath Kanhar, who were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case U/s 13(2)r/w 13(1)(c)(d) P.C. Act,1988/409/420/468/471/ 120-B IPC for making excess payment to labourers (Job Card holders) engaged in road works under MGNREG scheme, and thereby misappropriating Govt. money, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine Rs10,000.
Further, both the convicts namely were sent to jail custody to serve their sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Biswanath Kanhar, A/p-Asst. Teacher, Chitreswari Project Primary School, Kakatpur Block, Dist-Puri from service following his conviction.
