Kamal Haasan, at 71, has set a new benchmark in Indian cinema by becoming the country’s highest-paid actor.
For his role as Supreme Yaskin in Kalki 2898 AD, he reportedly earned Rs 150 crore for just 10 days of shooting, translating to Rs 15 crore per day.
The film, featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, showcased Haasan as a dictator god-king ruling the Complex. Despite limited screen time, his character played a crucial role in the storyline. Filmmaker Yugi Sethu described Haasan as India’s most expensive actor, noting that his fee surpassed industry norms.
To put his remuneration in perspective, Rs 150 crore equals the budget of two major films like Gadar 2, which cost Rs 75 crore. This comparison highlights the scale of Haasan’s earnings and his unmatched stature in Indian cinema.
Reports varied on his exact fee, with some suggesting Rs 20 crore and others citing figures above Rs 100 crore. Regardless, his influence on the film’s success underscored his enduring appeal. Haasan has already begun work on the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, reuniting with Amitabh Bachchan. He is also set to collaborate with Rajinikanth in a Nelson Dilipkumar-directed project, proving his continued dominance in high-profile ventures.
Haasan’s career spans decades, and his latest achievement demonstrates that talent and reputation can command extraordinary rewards. Fans eagerly await his upcoming projects, celebrating his legacy as one of India’s most respected and highest-paid actors.
