Justice Chittaranjan Dash, the head of the Judicial Commission, submitted the commission’s report on the Bharatpur police station incident to Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seba Bhawan today.

The report addresses the alleged custodial torture of an Army officer and the sexual harassment of his fiancée at Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar last year.

The commission, established by the state government on September 22, 2024, conducted a thorough investigation into the incident, examining 525 affidavits and questioning multiple individuals. The 282-page report was handed over to the Home Department after the inquiry, which began on October 1, 2024.

The incident, which occurred on the night of September 15, 2024, involved the Army officer and his fiancée being intercepted by miscreants and subsequently seeking help at the Bharatpur police station. Instead of addressing their complaint, the police allegedly subjected them to physical abuse and sexual harassment. The incident led to nationwide outrage, resulting in the suspension of five police personnel and the initiation of a Crime Branch investigation.
