Jharsuguda district administration extended school holidays by two more days due to the ongoing severe heatwave. District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan directed all educational institutions to remain closed on April 24 and 25.
The order applies to government and private schools from kindergarten to Class 12. The District Education Officer’s office issued instructions to block education officers, principals, and teachers to strictly enforce the directive.
Officials said the decision prioritises the health and safety of children during extreme summer conditions. Temperatures have remained dangerously high across the district, prompting precautionary measures.
Earlier, schools had already been closed due to rising heat. With the extension, students will now resume classes only after April 25, depending on weather conditions.
The administration emphasised that compliance is mandatory and warned against violations. Parents welcomed the move, noting that young children are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
