Jajpur police, under the guidance of DIG (Central Range), launched Operation Nightsweeper and arrested 14 individuals involved in a series of burglaries across Jajpur district over the last six months.
The gang carried out thefts of gold, silver jewellery, and cash from houses in Dharmasala, Kuakhia, Bramhabarda, Chandikhole, and Balichandrapur since March 2025. Moreover, police formed multiple teams after receiving reliable intelligence and quickly apprehended the accused along with the receivers of stolen property.
Officers recovered 225 grams of gold, 2.39 kilograms of silver jewellery, Rs 5.9 lakh cash, three vehicles, 15 mobile phones, weapons, and house-breaking instruments. In addition, investigators revealed that the principal accused, Mehboob, Guro, and Aman regularly visited the jewellery shop of Janmejaya Sahoo alias Kanha at Balichandrapur Bazar to dispose of stolen ornaments.
Kanha then supplied the jewellery to Amal Seth of Nayasadak, Cuttack, who melted the items with associates and converted them into raw gold for cash on commission. Consequently, the gang shared the proceeds based on participation.
The arrested include Sk Alimuddin alias Goro, Soumyaranjan Behera alias Bagha, Rahim Khan, Sk Emauddin alias Chua, Sk Mustakim Ali, Raju Khan, Sk Mehetab, Manoj Malik, Sk Chand, and Gouttam Jena alias Nanda. Furthermore, receivers Janmejaya Sahoo, Amal Seth, Bikram Behera, and Pabitra Sethy were also nabbed. Police identified the absconding accused Lalloo, Aman, and Mehboob.
Verification of involvement in other police station limits continues, and the case will be forwarded to the JMFC Court, Chandikhole. Finally, police confirmed that further updates on Operation Nightsweeper will follow.
