A youth went missing in the Devi River near Machhagaon while fishing with friends on Friday, triggering a massive search operation by fire services personnel.
The missing youth has been identified as Sangram Parida of Sukida village. Sources said Sangram and four friends entered the river for fishing when three of them lost balance in the strong current and began drowning. Locals rushed to rescue them after hearing cries for help.
Two of the youths were saved, but Sangram could not be pulled out and disappeared in the river. Villagers and family members gathered at the riverbank as rescue efforts intensified.
Fire services teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an extensive search with the help of local residents and fishermen. Rescue personnel continued combing the river for several hours, but Sangram remained untraced till the latest reports.
Family members stayed near the riverbank throughout the operation, anxiously awaiting updates. Officials said the search would continue until the youth is found.
