A devastating cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district triggered severe flash floods, resulting in three fatalities and displacing over 100 villagers in Dharam Kund village.
The deluge damaged nearly 40 homes and swept away multiple vehicles, prompting an extensive rescue operation.
The disaster also caused massive landslides and mudslides, leading to traffic suspension on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Authorities have advised commuters against travelling until conditions improve.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier warned of extreme weather conditions due to an active western disturbance, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds between April 18 and 20.
Expressing grief, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured immediate rescue and relief efforts, stating, “We are in touch with the local administration to ensure urgent action and assistance for affected residents.”
