A group of five probationers from the 2025 batch of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) visited Odisha as part of their two-week Field Exposure Training Programme.
The officer trainees, who are among 31 currently undergoing probationary training at the National Statistical Systems Training Academy (NSSTA) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, were attached to the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Odisha, and also engaged with the Revenue, Inspection, Planning, Audit & Statistics & Evaluation (RIPAE&S).
During their visit from March 30 to April 10, 2026, the probationers paid a courtesy call on senior state officials to understand Odisha’s administrative framework and long-term development priorities.
On April 9, they met Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Odisha, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, IAS, at the Planning & Convergence Department conference hall. The discussions centred on Odisha’s Vision 2036 and Vision 2047, along with the state’s income dynamics and economic growth strategies.
The probationers also called on Chief Secretary Anu Garg, IAS, further enriching their exposure to the state’s governance and development agenda.
Additional Secretaries to the Government in the Planning & Convergence Department, Prakash Chandra Mohanty and Pradumna Mahakud, briefed the young officers on the roles, functions, and key ongoing schemes of the department.
The visit provided the ISS probationers with valuable ground-level exposure to how statistical data supports policy planning, monitoring, and evaluation in a state pursuing ambitious growth targets — including becoming a $500 billion economy by 2036 and contributing significantly to India’s Viksit Bharat@2047 goals.
