In a dramatic turn of events, Inter Kashi has been officially declared the I-League 2024–25 champion following a decisive ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The verdict overturned the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Appeals Committee’s earlier decision to deduct four points from the club over a player registration controversy.
The dispute centred around Spanish striker Mario Barco, who was initially registered before the season but was replaced due to injury. Inter Kashi later re-registered Barco after another player’s contract termination, prompting AIFF’s Competitions Committee to deem the move invalid. While the League Committee initially sided with Kashi, the Appeals Committee reversed the decision, leading to a four-point deduction.
CAS, however, ruled in favour of Inter Kashi, reinstating the points and awarding the club a total of 42—enough to surpass Churchill Brothers, who dropped to second due to goal difference. This marks Kashi’s second successful appeal this season, having previously won a case against Namdhari FC.
AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey acknowledged the ruling, stating, “The Court of Arbitration for Sport serves as the highest judicial authority in sports. We respect its decision and congratulate Inter Kashi on their championship.”
Despite the title win, uncertainty looms over Inter Kashi’s potential promotion to the Indian Super League (ISL). The ISL remains on hold pending a Supreme Court verdict on AIFF’s constitution and the future of the Master Rights Agreement with Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).
As Indian football navigates regulatory complexities, Inter Kashi’s triumph stands as a testament to resilience and legal clarity in sport governance.
