A shocking case of custodial torture and alleged murder surfaced at the ‘Sudhar’ de-addiction centre in Jagatsinghpur town, where inmate Aniruddha Lenka of Nagpur area under Tirtol Block died after a brutal assault and injection.
Police registered a murder case following a complaint by the victim’s son, Abinash Lenka, and arrested two employees of the centre. Officials sealed the facility and seized CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Aniruddha displayed abnormal behaviour on Saturday night. Staff allegedly tied him with ropes, assaulted him, and later administered an injection after consulting a doctor over the phone. Police suspect the injection, combined with a severe beating, caused his death.
On Sunday morning, staff took Aniruddha to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Hospital authorities noticed multiple injury marks and alerted police. Investigators later discovered that the accused employees had disposed of the injection vial used on the victim.
Police brought the doctor who advised the injection under investigation. Officials confirmed he would be questioned regarding his role in the incident.
