Infertility affects a significant number of couples globally, yet the conversation around it remains less open than it should be. The good news is that 2026 has brought a wider range of treatment options, better success rates, and a more personalised approach to fertility care than at any time before. Whether a couple is just beginning their evaluation or has already tried several approaches, understanding what infertility treatment hospitals offer helps them make informed decisions about the path ahead.

When is Infertility Treatment Recommended?

Doctors typically recommend an infertility evaluation after a couple has been trying to conceive for 12 months without success, or six months if the woman is over 35. Earlier evaluation is appropriate if there is a known condition, such as irregular periods, a history of pelvic surgery, or known male factor issues.

Infertility treatment is not a single step but a process that begins with understanding the specific cause, which guides what intervention is most suitable.

Common Infertility Treatment Options

• Ovulation induction: For women who do not ovulate regularly, oral medications or hormonal injections stimulate the ovaries to produce and release eggs. This is often the first step for women with ovulation-related infertility, including PCOS.
• Intrauterine insemination (IUI): A procedure where washed, concentrated sperm is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It is suitable for mild male factor infertility, unexplained infertility, or whencervical factors are involved.
• In vitro fertilisation (IVF): Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries after hormonal stimulation, fertilised with sperm in a laboratory, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus. IVF is recommended for tubal factor infertility, moderate to severe male factor, repeated IUI failure, or unexplained infertility.
• Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI): A single sperm is injected directly into a mature egg. This technique is used in cases of severe male factor infertility, previous failed fertilisation in IVF, or where sperm is retrieved surgically.
• Surgical treatments: Conditions such as blocked tubes, fibroids, polyps, or endometriosis can be corrected surgically to improve natural conception chances or improve IVF outcomes.
• Donor programmes: Donor eggs, sperm, or embryos are options for couples where neither partner can produce viable gametes, or in cases of repeated IVF failure with poor embryo quality.

Understanding Success Rates at an Infertility Treatment Hospital

Success rates at any infertility treatment hospital are often presented as live birth rates per embryo transfer or per cycle started. It is important to understand that these figures are influenced by several factors:

• Age of the woman: Success rates decline with age, particularly after 35, as egg quality and quantity decrease.
• Cause of infertility: Some causes respond better to treatment than others.

Number of previous attempts: Success rates may vary across cycles.

• Quality of the embryology laboratory: Laboratory conditions, equipment, and embryologist experience directly affect fertilisation and embryo development outcomes.

Renowned health centres such as the Rainbow Children’s Hospital and BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals are specialised medical facilities primarily focused on paediatrics, obstetrics, and gynaecology.

You can ask them to explain their success rates in context, broken down by age group and diagnosis, which gives a more realistic picture than a single headline percentage.

Preparing for Infertility Treatment

The months leading up to starting treatment are an opportunity to optimise overall health. Both partners are encouraged to:

• Maintain a healthy weight, as both obesity and being underweight can affect treatment outcomes
• Stop smoking, which reduces egg quality and sperm function
• Limit alcohol consumption
• Take prenatal vitamins, including folic acid
• Manage stress through regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and emotional support

Conclusion

Infertility treatment has evolved considerably, and the range of options now available means that many couples who previously had no pathway to parenthood now do. The key is a thorough evaluation followed by a treatment plan built around the specific diagnosis, individual health profile, and realistic expectations. Starting at a well-equipped infertility treatment hospital with experienced fertility specialists, clear communication, and a patient-centred approach gives couples the best foundation for this journey.
