An IndiGo Airlines flight traveling from Delhi to Bagdogra was forced to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on January 18, 2026, following a bomb threat discovered onboard. The threat was found in a handwritten note inside the aircraft’s toilet, alerting authorities to the presence of a potential explosive device on board.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Verma, the threat was discovered on a tissue paper in the aircraft’s restroom, which stated that a bomb was present on the flight. The aircraft, which had 238 passengers, including 222 adults and eight infants, along with two pilots and five crew members, was en route from Delhi to Bagdogra when the threat was identified.

Upon receiving the alert at around 8:46 AM, air traffic control immediately coordinated with airport authorities. The flight safely landed at Lucknow airport at 9:17 AM, where it was quickly isolated from the rest of the airport traffic.

Security personnel, including Bomb Disposal Squads and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) teams, surrounded the aircraft and began a detailed search for any possible threats. All passengers were evacuated, and security checks were carried out to ensure their safety.

The authorities have confirmed that the situation remains under close scrutiny, and further investigations are underway. The aircraft is being thoroughly searched, and no explosive device has been reported so far.

This incident follows a similar bomb threat received at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport last Christmas, which led to additional security checks but did not result in any dangerous situations.

The ongoing investigation will provide further clarity, and authorities are following standard security protocols to ensure public safety.
