Indian Railways has launched an innovative Round Trip Package offering a 20% rebate on the base fare of return journeys.

This scheme, applicable during Diwali and Chhath, is designed to reduce overcrowding and improve train utilisation while providing financial relief to passengers.

📅 Booking Window & Travel Dates

  • Bookings open: 14 August 2025
  • Onward journey: 13–26 October 2025
  • Return journey: 17 November–1 December 2025 The usual 60-day advance reservation rule is waived for return tickets under this scheme.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Both onward and return tickets must be booked together
  • Same passenger, class, and origin-destination pair
  • Confirmed tickets only
  • Valid across all classes and special trains (excluding flexi fare trains)
  • No refunds, modifications, or additional discounts allowed
  • Booking must be done via the same mode (online or counter)

🎯 Scheme Objectives

  • Redistribute passenger traffic over a longer festive window
  • Minimise congestion on popular routes
  • Enhance operational efficiency
  • Support extended family vacations with cost-effective travel

🛤️ How to Book Passengers must first book their onward ticket within the specified dates and then use the “connecting journey” feature on Indian Railways’ booking platforms to secure the discounted return fare.

This strategic move by Indian Railways promises smoother travel experiences and greater affordability for millions heading home during India’s most celebrated festivals.
