The Indian Embassy in Cambodia has issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals, urging them to avoid visiting border areas amid escalating clashes between Cambodia and Thailand.

“In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas,” the advisory stated. For emergencies, citizens can contact the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or email cons.phnompenh@mea.gov.in.

The advisory follows similar guidance issued earlier by the Indian Embassy in Thailand, cautioning travellers to stay updated through Thai authorities regarding the volatile situation.

Cambodia-Thailand Conflict

The border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has intensified, with jets, artillery, tanks, and ground troops involved in heavy fighting since Thursday. The death toll has reached 33—including 13 fatalities in Cambodia (eight civilians and five soldiers) and 20 in Thailand (14 civilians and six soldiers). Over 70 people have been reported injured.

The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Friday amid concerns of further escalation. The violence is the deadliest since the 2008-2011 border clashes and threatens the safety of tourists in both countries.
