The Jatni campus of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) witnessed a grand celebration of knowledge, aspiration and national pride today as it held its 15th Convocation ceremony.
Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, delivered an inspiring address that moved the graduating students and dignitaries alike. “Today the great scientist Homi Bhabha is not among us, but today I can see hundreds of Homi Bhabhas sitting in front of me,” the Vice President said, drawing thunderous applause. He reminded the young scientists that their role in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) is crucial, especially in tackling climate change, complex health challenges and ensuring national security through sustainable development. He urged the graduates to keep their curiosity alive, adopt eco-friendly technologies and apply their knowledge to solve problems at the grassroots level for the welfare of society.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing the graduating students, said the young generation is already making special contributions to science, research and nation-building. “Science and technology are the very foundation of a prosperous nation,” he stated, calling upon the young scientists to use their expertise to find solutions for problems faced by people at the grassroots level. He lauded NISER’s high standards of teaching and research, which have earned national and international recognition.
Odisha Governor Dr Haribabu Kambhampati told the students that they were not merely receiving degrees but were shouldering a great responsibility towards society. “All problems of the world can be solved only through science,” he emphasised.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described NISER as a unique institution and expressed pride that the campus has been visited by the President of India, the Prime Minister and now the Vice President — a matter of great honour for Odisha. He highlighted that women’s participation in STEM education at NISER Bhubaneswar has reached an impressive 40 per cent, reflecting the institute’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated all the graduating students and said receiving their certificates in the presence of the Vice President made the day truly memorable. “This is not just a day of distributing certificates; it is a sacred occasion of handing over a glorious tradition of service and excellence to the next generation,” he remarked.

The ceremony was also attended by Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, NISER Director Professor Hirendranath Ghosh and members of the Board of Governors.
The 15th Convocation at NISER once again underscored the institute’s growing stature as one of India’s premier centres for science education and research.
As hundreds of young scientists stepped into the world today, carrying not just degrees but a deep sense of purpose, the message from the nation’s top leadership was clear: India’s future in science will be shaped by those who choose to serve society with both brilliance and compassion.
