India has officially welcomed the high-profile Alaska Summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing their leadership as “highly commendable” in efforts to restore peace.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Saturday, emphasising the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving the ongoing Ukraine war.
“Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable,” the statement read, adding that India appreciates the progress made during the summit. New Delhi reiterated its longstanding position that only diplomatic engagement can pave the way for a sustainable resolution.
The summit, held in Alaska, marked a rare moment of direct engagement between the two global powers amid heightened tensions. While no formal truce was announced, India’s endorsement signals its continued advocacy for multilateral dialogue and peaceful negotiation.
