In a significant diplomatic event, President Droupadi Murmu of India hosted President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
The visit underscored the enduring friendship between the two nations, with President Murmu emphasising that their bond has remained steadfast for many years and is poised to prosper further.
The occasion marked the 25th anniversary of the India-Russia Strategic Partnership, established in October 2000 during President Putin’s inaugural visit to India as President. Welcoming President Putin and his delegation, President Murmu highlighted his personal commitment and support to the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

She noted that the partnership is anchored in a mutual dedication to peace, stability, and shared socio-economic and technological progress. The year 2025 has proven particularly productive, featuring advancements in high-level political dialogues, trade and economic relations, defence collaboration, civil nuclear energy, space exploration, science and technology, education, culture, and robust people-to-people interactions.

President Murmu referenced the Joint Statement from the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, which encapsulates the unique essence of their bilateral relations and outlines a roadmap for deeper cooperation.

The leaders also reflected on the deep-rooted cultural connections spanning centuries, from historical trade routes to the profound exchanges between Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy through letters, alongside a shared appreciation for each other’s literary, artistic, and cultural legacies.

Both President Murmu and President Putin expressed optimism about the future, affirming that the longstanding friendship between India and Russia will continue to flourish for generations to come.
