Skill Development Institute (SDI) Bhubaneswar celebrated “ SDI Bhubaneswar @ 5 – Celebrating Five Years of the Permanent Campus” at its Taraboi campus, marking an important milestone in its journey towards becoming an institution of national significance in skill development and future-ready talent.

Odisha’s Chief Secretary, Anu Garg, IAS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural session was attended by Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha; Rajesh Swoikia, CFO, NSDC; Rashmi Govil, Chairperson, SDI Bhubaneswar & Director (HR), IndianOil; Vincent Luis, India Head, GFTN; Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar; and Ranjan Bhowmick, CEO, SDI Bhubaneswar, along with senior representatives from industry, academia and the skill development ecosystem.

New Initiatives Launched: The occasion also witnessed the launch of significant initiatives aimed at strengthening advanced and international skilling at SDI Bhubaneswar.

A “one-year Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Advanced Robotics with Artificial Intelligence”, in collaboration with IIT Bhubaneswar, was launched. The programme is aimed at preparing young professionals for emerging opportunities in advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics and AI-enabled industries.

SDI Bhubaneswar also announced the commencement of “German language training under the Skill India International Centre (SIIC) initiative”, further strengthening its efforts towards preparing Indian youth for international employment opportunities.

‘Five Years of the Permanent Campus’ : Established under the ‘Skill India Mission of the Government of India’, SDI Bhubaneswar was conceived with a clear objective – to equip India’s youth with industry-relevant skills, enhance employability and prepare them for emerging opportunities.

The Government of Odisha extended around ‘47 acres of land’ for establishment of the permanent campus. Over the years, the Institute has progressively expanded its training ecosystem through collaborations with government, industry, academia and skill development organisations.

Delivering the welcome address, Smt. Rashmi Govil, Chairperson, SDI Bhubaneswar & Director (HR), IndianOil, expressed gratitude to the Government of Odisha for its continued support in the growth of the Institute. She also thanked industry, academia and other stakeholders for their overwhelming support and collaboration.

She highlighted the collective efforts of the ‘Oil & Gas PSUs, with Indian Oil playing the lead role’, in supporting the Skill India Mission of the Government of India and developing SDI Bhubaneswar as a centre for quality, industry-linked skill development.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Secretary Smt.  Garg appreciated SDI Bhubaneswar’s initiatives towards empowering the youth of Odisha through skill training and placement support.

She highlighted Odisha’s ambitious growth trajectory and underscored that “skilled manpower would be a key fulcrum of the State’s future growth story. Referring to the State’s growing industrialisation, she emphasised emerging opportunities in sectors such as “semiconductors, mineral-based industries, green ammonia, apparel and textiles”, and stressed the importance of developing a skilled workforce aligned with these new-age sectors.

Other dignitaries shared valuable perspectives on building a stronger and more integrated skill ecosystem and on strengthening collaboration among government, industry, academia and skill development institutions.

The programme also brought together representatives and students from “ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges”, providing them an opportunity to engage with leaders from industry, academia and the skill ecosystem.

Heads and senior representatives of several leading academic and skill institutions of Odisha, including the “World Skill Center, CTTC, CIPET, C.V. Raman Global University, Centurion University, SOA University, DRIEMS University, Dadhichi Group of Institutions, Sophitorium and Silicon University” , attended the programme.

The event reaffirmed SDI Bhubaneswar’s commitment to creating a stronger interface between ‘skills, industry, technology and employment’, while preparing young people for emerging opportunities in India and overseas.

Concluding the programme, Shri Ranjan Bhowmick, CEO, SDI Bhubaneswar, thanked the Government of Odisha, Oil & Gas PSUs, IndianOil, NSDC, industry partners, academic institutions, recruiters and other stakeholders for their continued support in the Institute’s growth journey.

The fifth anniversary of the permanent campus thus marked not only a celebration of SDI Bhubaneswar’s journey so far, but also the beginning of its ‘next phase of advanced, technology-driven and globally aligned skilling’.
