India handed over two personal watercraft (PWC) along with safety gear to the Sri Lankan Coast Guard, reinforcing its near‑shore Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
The handover took place at the SLCG Headquarters in Mirissa, where India’s Defence Adviser formally presented the equipment to the Director of Operations.
The initiative forms part of India’s expanding maritime partnership with Sri Lanka. It aims to enhance operational readiness and coordination between the two nations in coastal safety and humanitarian response.
The collaboration also includes the 4th India–Sri Lanka Diving Exercise (IN‑SLN DIVEX 2026) in Colombo, which focuses on underwater interoperability, joint diving operations, and professional camaraderie between the two navies. The exercise strengthens mutual trust and technical expertise in complex maritime environments.
India further extended support by providing BHISM medical units for emergency care and 50,000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to bolster Sri Lanka’s security preparedness. Officials said these contributions reflect India’s commitment to regional stability and humanitarian assistance across the Indian Ocean.
The initiative aligns with India’s MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions—promoting collective maritime safety and sustainable growth among neighbouring nations.
