Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the landmark India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), calling it a significant opportunity for India’s ambitious youth and a major step towards the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
Addressing the media at Parliament, the Prime Minister urged Indian traders and manufacturers to prioritise quality as they enter the European market.
“This is a major opportunity, and the first mantra of this opportunity is quality,” PM Modi said. “Our traders should take the best quality products into the market, now that it is open to us.”
The Prime Minister said the trade pact reflects India’s growing global confidence and the promise of its future workforce. He described the agreement as free trade designed for a rapidly advancing and aspirational India.
“At the very beginning of this quarter, the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement shows how bright the future is for India’s youth,” PM Modi said. “This is free trade for an ambitious India, for aspirational youth, and for a self-reliant nation.”
He expressed confidence that Indian manufacturers would use the agreement to strengthen their capabilities, improve standards, and expand their global footprint.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came days after India and the European Union formally announced the trade deal during the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to India.
The India–EU FTA is expected to boost bilateral trade, create new export opportunities, and enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, services, and innovation.
