India held their nerve in a pulsating finish to defeat South Africa by 17 runs in the opening ODI of the series at Ranchi, taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match contest.

India’s Defense Under Pressure

Chasing a stiff target of 350, South Africa fought valiantly before being bowled out for 332 in 49.2 overs. The visitors looked threatening thanks to a fiery partnership between Marco Jansen (70 off 39) and Matthew Breetzke (72 off 80), which kept India on edge.

However, Kuldeep Yadav turned the tide with two crucial wickets, dismissing both Jansen and Breetzke in quick succession. His spell ensured India regained control just as the chase was heating up.

Bosch’s Brave Stand

South Africa’s lower order, led by Corbin Bosch, refused to surrender. Bosch struck a maiden ODI fifty and kept the chase alive with aggressive stroke play, scoring 67 off 51 balls. His resistance carried the game into the final over, where India’s composure proved decisive.

Rohit Sharma Seals the Win

With South Africa needing 18 runs off the last over, Prasidh Krishna was handed the ball. Bosch attempted a wild swing but found Rohit Sharma, who calmly completed the catch to end South Africa’s spirited fight.
