India stormed into the SAFF U20 Championship final after thrashing Bhutan 5-0 in the semi-final at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives.
The defending champions displayed speed, accuracy, and ruthless finishing to secure their spot in the final against Bangladesh, who defeated Nepal 1-0.
India struck early in the fourth minute when Omang Dodum converted a low cross from Rohen Singh Chaphamayum. The team maintained control throughout the first half, with Md Arbash doubling the lead just before halftime. Bhutan came close once when Ngawang Yonten’s long-range shot hit the crossbar, but India’s dominance remained unchallenged.
The second half saw India seal the victory with a flurry of goals. Rohen Singh scored twice in quick succession in the 56th and 57th minutes, capitalising on sharp teamwork and Bhutan’s defensive lapses. Substitute Malemngamba Thokchom added the fifth goal in stoppage time, completing India’s emphatic win.
India’s attacking trio of Dodum, Arbash, and Rohen consistently pressured Bhutan’s defence, while goalkeeper Suraj Singh ensured a clean sheet. The victory highlighted India’s depth and tactical superiority, reinforcing their status as favourites to retain the title.
The final against Bangladesh promises a thrilling contest, with India aiming to defend their crown and extend their dominance in South Asian youth football.
