India has reiterated its support for a two-state solution on the Palestine issue as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised serious concerns over the escalating tensions in West Asia during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.
Addressing representatives from BRICS nations and newly inducted member countries, Jaishankar said the ongoing instability in the Gulf region, disruptions to maritime trade, and threats to global energy infrastructure have created a fragile and uncertain security environment. His remarks come amid the continuing Iran-US conflict and rising fears over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.
Jaishankar stressed that India continues to support a peaceful and negotiated two-state solution to the Palestine issue while calling for diplomacy, international cooperation, and de-escalation across conflict-hit regions in West Asia.
“The conflict in West Asia merits particular attention. Continuing tensions, risks to maritime traffic, and disruptions to energy infrastructure highlight the fragility of the situation,” Jaishankar said during the meeting.
The minister also highlighted growing instability in countries including Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, and Libya. He noted that the humanitarian crisis and security risks across these regions require sustained global engagement and coordinated diplomatic efforts.
India’s top diplomat further stated that stability in the region cannot be selective and warned that ongoing violence and attacks on civilian infrastructure threaten international peace and economic recovery. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and ensuring civilian safety.
The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is taking place at a time when the Iran-US conflict has intensified global concerns over oil prices, trade routes, and geopolitical stability. Delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the UAE are participating in the high-level discussions in New Delhi.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also attended the meeting and urged BRICS nations to condemn military actions against Tehran. He accused the United States and Israel of unlawful aggression and called on member countries to take practical steps to prevent further escalation in the region.
India’s remarks at the BRICS platform underline New Delhi’s balanced diplomatic approach as it seeks peace, regional stability, uninterrupted energy supplies, and protection of global trade routes amid mounting tensions in West Asia.
