The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather alert for Odisha, warning of rising temperatures, persistent humidity, and localized thunderstorms over the coming week.

Hot and Humid Conditions to Persist

According to the forecast, coastal and adjoining districts are likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions. A Yellow Warning has been issued for districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, and Khordha, where discomfort due to high humidity is expected to continue through the week.

Residents in these regions may experience increased heat stress, especially during daytime hours.

Dry Weather to Dominate Initially

For the first two days, most parts of the state are expected to witness dry weather conditions. However, the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Odisha is influencing the evolving weather pattern.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity in South Odisha

From April 14 onwards, southern districts such as Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati may receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places.

Despite this localized activity, dry conditions are expected to prevail across most other regions.

Heatwave Warning for Western Districts

The IMD has also issued a Yellow Warning for heatwave conditions in western Odisha. Districts including Bargarh and Bolangir will be affected initially, with the warning likely to extend to Jharsuguda and Sambalpur in the following days.

These conditions are expected between Day 3 and Day 5 of the forecast period.

Health Advisory for Residents

Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions to manage heat-related risks. People are encouraged to:

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
  • Take precautions during thunderstorms, including avoiding open areas

By the latter half of the week, dry weather is likely to return across the state. However, high humidity levels may continue to cause discomfort, particularly in coastal and central districts.
