India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for 10 districts in Odisha, warning that daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days.

The alert highlights worsening heat conditions, particularly in western and interior parts of the state.

Districts Under Heatwave Alert

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, the following districts are under heatwave warning:

  • Bolangir
  • Bargarh
  • Jharsuguda
  • Sundargarh
  • Deogarh
  • Angul
  • Boudh
  • Kandhamal
  • Sonepur
  • Sambalpur

Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious and limit exposure to extreme heat.

Rising Temperatures Across the State

Several regions are already experiencing intense heat. At least six towns recorded temperatures above 40°C, with Titilagarh emerging as the hottest location at 42°C.

The IMD has warned that the heat is likely to intensify further in the coming days.

Coastal Areas to Face High Humidity

While interior districts face heatwave conditions, coastal regions are expected to experience:

  • High humidity levels
  • Increased discomfort
  • Oppressive weather conditions for the next seven days

This combination of heat and humidity may significantly impact daily life.

Official Advisory and Safety Measures

Director Manorama Mohanty urged residents to take necessary precautions:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
  • Stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Wear light and breathable clothing
  • Take extra care of children, elderly individuals, and outdoor workers

With temperatures expected to rise further, Odisha is set to experience intense heatwave conditions in the coming days. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines to reduce health risks during this period.
