A PhD student at IIT Bhubaneswar died after falling from the sixth-floor balcony of the boys’ hostel.
The deceased, identified as Tanikonda Nishant Kumar from Andhra Pradesh, was pursuing his doctoral studies at the institute.
According to campus sources, Nishant fell from the balcony under unclear circumstances. Hostel residents rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident has left students and faculty in deep shock.
The college PRO confirmed the death and stated that the post-mortem would be conducted after Nishant’s parents arrive from Andhra Pradesh. Authorities have informed the family and initiated an internal inquiry to determine the cause of the fall.
Police reached the campus soon after the incident and began collecting statements from hostel residents. Officials are examining CCTV footage to understand whether the fall was accidental or involved any foul play.
