Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted the Collectors of several districts to remain in preparedness as the IMD has issued heavy rainfall warning for Odisha as a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around 11th June.
As per the special bulletin issued by IMD today, “A low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around 11th ]une and under its iInfluence, southwest monsoon is likely to advance into most parts of Odisha.
Also under its influence, widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy falls is very likely over the districts of Odisha within 10th to 14th June, 2021.”
The IMD has issued warning for the following districts:-
Yellow Warning: Valid From 8.30 am of 10th June Up To 8.30 am of 11th June:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and isolated heavy rainfall over the Districts Of Dhenkanal, Puri, Angul, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Boudh and Kandhamal.
Orange Warning: Valid From 8.30 am of 11th June Up To 8.30 am of 12th June:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul & Dhenkanal.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur & Kalahandi.
Valid From 8.30 am of 12th June Up To 8.30 am of 14th June:
Light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls and isolated extremely falls likely over the districts of Odisha. Heavy rainfall activity will gradually shift towards interior districts of Odisha, the IMD said.
Fishermen Warning: Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 -50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay Bengal on 10th June and along and off Odisha coast & north Bay of Bengal adjoining westcentral Bay Bengal from 11th June.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay of Bengal on 10th and along and off Odisha Coast & north Bay of Bengal adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from 11th June. Whoever in the deep-sea area have been advised to return to the coast by the 10th evening.
Taking note of the IMD forecast, the Odisha SRC has asked the Collectors of the districts under Orange & Yellow warning to closely monitor the situation and remain prepared to meet any waterlogging, localised flood-like situation including urban areas.
The District Collectors have been asked to alert BDOs, Tehsildars, EES of DOWR, RD & Works on maintaining road communication; keep continuous vigil of low lying areas, and take up dewatering wherever required including urban areas, and ensure the functioning of control room round the clock.
