Heavy Rain to Continue Across Odisha as IMD Issues Orange Alert for Five Districts

Heavy rainfall continued across several parts of Odisha on Wednesday as a low-pressure system remained active over the region, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange Warning for five districts and a Yellow Warning for 17 others.

According to the IMD, the current spell of monsoon rain, which began during the Rath Yatra period, is expected to persist for at least two more days, raising the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of the state.

Orange Warning for five districts

The IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Nuapada, where isolated places are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in these districts.

Yellow Warning for 17 districts

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

These districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

IMD advises caution

The weather department has advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or entering waterlogged areas during periods of intense rainfall and lightning activity.

With the low-pressure system expected to remain active, district administrations have been asked to stay prepared for possible localised flooding, waterlogging and rain-related disruptions, particularly in districts under Orange and Yellow warnings.

The IMD has urged people to monitor official weather updates and exercise caution while travelling over the next two days as monsoon activity continues across Odisha.
