Odisha will continue to face intense heatwave conditions until April 25, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The department issued a yellow warning for most districts, urging residents to take precautions against extreme temperatures.

Meteorologists said the heatwave will remain severe across western and coastal Odisha, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C in several areas. The warning covers districts including Balangir, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Boudh, and Angul, where conditions are expected to remain oppressive.

IMD predicted isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on Wednesday. Wind speeds may reach 40–50 km per hour during these spells, offering brief relief from the scorching heat.

Coastal districts such as Puri, Ganjam, and Kendrapara may experience humid conditions with occasional cloud cover. Authorities advised people to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and monitor weather updates regularly.

The prolonged heatwave has already affected daily life across Odisha, prompting school closures and health advisories. Officials said the situation will gradually improve after April 25 as temperatures begin to drop.
