Mumbai: Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 runs in Saturday’s first match at the DY Patil Stadium.
Despite late heroics from Andre Russell in either side of the innings, failed to score 157 runs.
Russell’s brilliant 48 off 25 was the sole reason KKR were able to come remotely close to the target in a game that looked like a losing cause from the start.
Earlier, Tim Southee starred on his return to the playing as KKR managed to restrict the GT to 156 for nine.
Hardik Pandya scored a fine 67 off 49 balls
However, Southee dismissed Hardik and Rashid Khan in the same over, before Andre Russell took four wickets in the final over to trigger GT’s collapse.
At a time when Andre Russell chose to bring his best to the table hitting everything in his arc, Rashid chose to wipe off whatever was remaining of the KKR batting order.
He dismissed the dangerous Venkatesh Iyer, trapping him at mid-wicket and then returned to scalp another wicket of Shivam Mavi.
