Govt Reaches Out to CJP Ahead of Parliament March, Claims Protest Group

In a significant development ahead of the proposed ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has claimed that the Central government has contacted the organisation for the first time since its nationwide protest began.

According to a CJP spokesperson, the outreach comes amid growing public attention over activist Sonam Wangchuk’s ongoing hunger strike and the group’s demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.

However, the Union government has not officially confirmed the claim.

Parliament March Faces Uncertainty

The CJP has planned its ‘Chalo Sansad’ march from Jantar Mantar on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The group expects thousands of supporters to participate in the demonstration.

Despite the preparations, the protest faces uncertainty after Delhi Police said no permission has been granted for the march. Authorities have imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in parts of New Delhi, citing law and order concerns.

Senior police officials reportedly held discussions with CJP representatives. The organisation assured the authorities that the march would remain peaceful. However, no final agreement was reached regarding permission for the procession.

Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Continues

The protest has gained momentum following the hospitalisation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28.

On July 18, Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to monitor his health. CJP has alleged that the activist was moved against his will, while the authorities maintain that the decision was taken based on medical advice and court directions.

Following Wangchuk’s hospitalisation, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also began an indefinite fast in support of the movement.

Centre’s Earlier Response

The latest claim of government outreach comes days after the Centre informed the Delhi High Court that it was prepared to provide medical assistance to Wangchuk based on doctors’ recommendations.

The High Court had directed the authorities to conduct regular health check-ups and take appropriate medical action if required.

Meanwhile, political attention remains focused on the proposed Parliament march, which is expected to coincide with the beginning of the Monsoon Session.

Whether the march proceeds as planned will depend on further discussions between the organisers and the Delhi Police.
