Baipariguda witnessed a shocking burglary on March 7 when miscreants broke into the residence of teacher Kanak Bhumia at Birakhamba Sahi.
The thieves forced open the main lock and ransacked the almirah, escaping with gold and silver ornaments valued in lakhs.
According to the complaint, Kanak Bhumia returned home from school around 4:30 pm. Later in the evening, she left for a wedding function at Mundaguda. When she came back at 9:30 pm, she found the lock broken and the almirah locker damaged. On inspection, she discovered that three bhori of gold and seven tola of silver ornaments were missing. Household items lay scattered across the floor, confirming the burglary.
She immediately lodged a complaint at the Baipariguda police station. Acting on the report, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. A scientific team also arrived today to collect evidence and examine the crime scene.
