Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and the Adani Group could soon receive major legal relief in the United States, according to multiple international reports.
A report by Bloomberg stated that US authorities are considering dropping fraud charges against Gautam Adani and other executives linked to the group. The development comes nearly 18 months after prosecutors in New York accused the business conglomerate of involvement in an alleged bribery and fraud scheme tied to solar energy contracts in India.
The case had created significant uncertainty around the Adani Group’s global business operations and its future expansion plans in the US market. However, fresh reports suggest the matter may now be heading toward a resolution.
According to The New York Times, Adani’s legal and lobbying efforts in Washington played a key role in the recent shift. The report claimed that Robert Giuffra, one of US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyers, represented Adani during meetings with US Justice Department officials.
The discussions reportedly included a proposal from the Adani Group to invest nearly $10 billion in the American economy and create around 15,000 jobs in the United States. The investment pitch is said to have attracted the attention of senior officials reviewing the case.
The original indictment, filed in 2024 by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn, alleged that Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and several executives were involved in paying more than $250 million in bribes to Indian officials to secure solar energy contracts projected to generate billions in profits over two decades.
US investigators had also accused the executives of misleading investors while raising funds from American and international markets.
The Adani Group has consistently denied all allegations. Responding to the accusations last year, Gautam Adani had described the claims as “baseless” and maintained that no member of the group had been charged under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
Despite the legal battle, the conglomerate continued strengthening its presence in the US through lobbying and business outreach. Reports noted that Adani-linked firms spent heavily on legal representation and policy engagement in Washington throughout 2025.
The possible withdrawal of charges could mark a major turning point for the Adani Group, especially as it seeks to expand its renewable energy and infrastructure ambitions globally.
