Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assured citizens that petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient for the next 13 days, despite panic buying across the state.
Long queues formed at fuel stations after concerns spread about possible disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Several pumps temporarily ran dry as demand surged nearly 50 per cent.
Patra clarified that panic buying stemmed from a misinterpretation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption. He urged people not to hoard fuel in containers and directed officials to conduct raids against black marketing. Authorities will prioritise supply for public transport services.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) also reassured citizens of adequate fuel availability. Chief General Manager Kamal Sheel confirmed district‑wise monitoring and replenishment of stocks. He noted that every district currently holds three to four days of supply, with sales rising 30 per cent in two days due to panic buying.
