Sambalpur Warriors launched their Bharat Masala Odisha T20 League – CM Trophy campaign with a hard‑fought 9‑run victory over Kataka Panthers at the Barabati Stadium.
Put in to bat, the Warriors piled up 193/8, thanks to skipper Gaurav Choudhary’s explosive 88 off 46 balls, laced with nine fours and six sixes. Partnering with Shantanu Mishra (60 off 40), Choudhary stitched a commanding 135‑run opening stand that set the tone.
Despite a late collapse, the Warriors posted a formidable total. Panthers’ bowler Abhishek Singh impressed with 3/32.
In reply, Kataka Panthers faltered early, losing four wickets inside the powerplay. MG Gopal and Kartik Biswal (56 off 28) revived hopes, but Biswal’s dismissal proved decisive. The Panthers eventually finished at 184/9, falling short by nine runs.
Choudhary was named Player of the Match, receiving the award from Bharat Masala Chairman Surendra Natha Panda. Reflecting on the win, he said: “It feels great to start the tournament with a win. The partnership with Shantanu gave us a strong platform, and this victory boosts our confidence going forward.”
