A 28-year-old man lost his life after sustaining injuries in a bomb explosion near Mathura under the Digapahandi police station limits in Ganjam district.

The deceased, identified as G. Raja of Naua Maulabhanja village, was grazing pigs in the forest when he came in contact with live explosives. Locals rushed him to Digapahandi hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police suspect miscreants planted the bombs either for poaching wild animals, such as wild boars, or to protect crops from wildlife intrusion. Forest officials have launched an inquiry into the incident.

Following a complaint lodged by Raja’s father, G. Krishna, Digapahandi police registered a case and began an investigation. Authorities handed over the body to family members for the last rites.
