Bhubaneswar: Soaring prices of fruits in Odisha have dampened the festive spirit of married women who will be celebrating Savitri Brata.
With a day to go for Sabitri Brata, the city market is flooded with huge varieties of fruits like jackfruits, grapes, oranges, mangos, litchhi, apples, bananas, watermelons, pineapples, datepalms etc.
Prices of the fruits have gone through the roof in the State Capital. There is a jump of more than 100% in prices of many fruits, hitting common people the most.
Meanwhile, the traders have said that business is not like before during festivals such as Savitri Brata. On the other hand, the customers have said that due to the high rates they are not able to buy huge quantities of fruits.
Apart from fruits markets, garment and cosmetic shops in the city are also witnessing huge rush as women are busy shopping for the festival.
