Odisha’s tableau rolled majestically along Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day parade on Monday, presenting a compelling narrative of the state’s rich cultural heritage and its growing role in building a self-reliant India.
Built around the theme “Soil to Silicon: Rooted in Tradition, Rising with Innovation,” the tableau captured Odisha’s journey from its agrarian and civilisational foundations to its emergence as a hub of technology-driven and inclusive development, aligned with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Blending Tradition with Modern Aspirations
The tableau seamlessly blended Odisha’s traditional strengths with its modern economic ambitions. Iconic elements such as Koraput coffee and the Konark Sun Temple symbolised sustainable livelihoods, indigenous agriculture, and the state’s enduring civilisational legacy.
These visuals highlighted how Odisha continues to build on its cultural roots while embracing innovation-led growth.
Women-Led and Inclusive Development in Focus
The front section of the tableau showcased women-led participation, underlining Odisha’s strong emphasis on women empowerment and inclusive development as the foundation of sustainable progress.
This segment reflected the state’s commitment to ensuring that economic growth remains equitable, people-centric, and inclusive, especially as Odisha advances towards self-reliance.
Technology and Innovation Take Centre Stage
At the heart of the tableau, a symbolic hand holding a semiconductor chip represented Odisha’s growing presence in advanced technology, digital infrastructure, and skilled human capital.
The imagery highlighted the state’s emergence as a destination for innovation-led sectors, advanced manufacturing, and its alignment with India’s national priorities in electronics and semiconductor development.
Celebrating Culture, Craftsmanship and Folk Traditions
Odisha’s rich artistic and cultural heritage featured prominently, with depictions of Pattachitra paintings, Tarakasi (silver filigree) craftsmanship, and vibrant tribal art forms. Koraput coffee was again highlighted as a symbol of tribal empowerment, sustainable farming, and indigenous enterprise.
Motifs inspired by the wheels of Lord Jagannath’s chariot adorned the sides of the tableau, reinforcing the state’s deep cultural identity.
Adding to the visual spectacle, folk performers in traditional attire accompanied the tableau, performing the 16th-century Chaiti Ghoda dance, bringing alive Odisha’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural richness and economic self-reliance.
