What started as suspicion of goat theft quickly turned into a terrifying mob attack in Koilijhar village under Chandiposh police station limits on Friday, leaving four young men from Raurkela’s Malgodam area fighting for their lives — and one still missing after a desperate plunge into the Brahmani River.
Villagers allegedly surrounded the four youths and launched a brutal assault, accusing them of stealing goats. In a bid to escape the violent mob, one of the young men jumped into the Brahmani River. He has not been traced since. Rescue teams and locals are continuing the search, but his condition and whereabouts remain unknown.
The remaining three youths suffered serious injuries in the attack. They were first rushed to Raurkela Government Hospital for emergency treatment. As their condition deteriorated, doctors referred them to JP Hospital for advanced care.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the area. Police from Chandiposh police station have registered the case and launched a detailed investigation. Teams are actively searching for the missing youth while collecting evidence and statements related to the mob attack.
As the probe continues, more details are expected to emerge in the coming hours.
