In a shocking incident, former state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav, 25, was allegedly shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav, 49, at their residence in Sushant Lok-II, Gurugram, on Thursday afternoon.
The tragic event unfolded around 2 PM when Radhika was in the kitchen on the first floor. Her father reportedly fired five rounds from a licensed .32 bore revolver, with three bullets hitting her in the back, killing her instantly. Her mother, present on the ground floor, mistook the gunshots for a pressure cooker blast and rushed upstairs to discover the tragedy.
Police arrested Deepak Yadav, who confessed to the murder, citing ongoing family tensions. According to sources, he was bitter over being financially dependent on his daughter and had repeated clashes with her over the tennis academy she ran.
“Deepak Yadav was reportedly unhappy with Radhika’s tennis academy,” Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Singh said. Following a complaint by Radhika’s uncle, an FIR was lodged at Sector 56 Police Station, and Deepak was taken into custody.
Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime, and further investigation is underway.
