Jharsuguda/Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday granted conditional bail to former Odisha MLA Anup Sai who was awarded life imprisonment by a lower court in connection with a double murder case.
The former Brajarajnagar MLA was awarded life imprisonment by a Raigarh district sessions court, Chhattisgarh court in April in connection with the sensational double murder of a woman and her 14-year-old daughter in 2016.
Burdhan Toppo, another accused, who was also arrested in connection with the case, had been acquitted by the court. Toppo was working as the driver of the former MLA from Brajarajnagar.
On Feb 13, Anup Sai was arrested by Chattisgarh police in the murder case involving a mother-daughter duo in 2016.
According to sources, the former Brajarajnagar MLA was allegedly involved in the murder of a woman identified as Kalpana Das (32) and her daughter Pravati Das (14) in April 2016 in the border area of Jharsuguda.
Sai, served as the MLA of Brajarajnagar from May 19, 2009 to May 18, 2014 is currently serving as the chairman of Odisha Warehousing Corporation after joining BJD in 2014.
