In a decisive public health response, authorities in Jajpur have ordered the closure of all street food outlets for one week following a major food poisoning incident.
The move comes after more than 90 people fell ill in the Dasarathpur area after consuming contaminated food items, including the popular Dahibara.
Street Food Vendors Ordered to Shut Operations
The Jajpur Municipal Administration has directed all dahibara vendors, fast food stalls, and other street food outlets across urban areas to remain closed for seven days. The step aims to prevent further health risks and ensure food safety standards are strictly enforced.
Health Team Conducts Raids and Sample Collection
A special inspection team led by Chief Health Officer Dr. Pradeep Khuntia carried out extensive raids in areas such as Kusuma, Medical Square, and Jodikua. During the drive, food samples were collected from multiple outlets for laboratory testing to determine the exact source of contamination.
Over 90 People Affected, Several Hospitalised
The incident has raised serious concerns after more than 90 individuals experienced symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, and severe stomach ailments. While many patients were treated at local healthcare facilities, those in critical condition were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for advanced care.
Public Advisory and Preventive Measures
Authorities have urged residents to consume boiled water, maintain proper hygiene, and avoid unsafe food sources during this period. Officials emphasised that public cooperation is essential to contain the situation and prevent further cases.
Strict Action Against Violators
The administration has warned of stringent action against vendors found guilty of selling unhygienic or contaminated food. Officials stated that the crackdown will continue until food safety standards are fully ensured across the district.
