Following a decisive victory in the recent assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed senior leaders as central observers to oversee the formation of new governments in key states.

The move comes after the party secured a strong mandate in both West Bengal and Assam.

Amit Shah Named Observer for West Bengal
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been appointed as the central observer for West Bengal. He will be assisted by Mohan Charan Majhi, who has been named co-observer. Their role will be to oversee the election of the BJP legislative party leader in the state, a crucial step before government formation. The swearing-in ceremony for the new government in West Bengal is scheduled for May 9.

JP Nadda to Oversee Assam Process
In Assam, BJP national president JP Nadda has been appointed as the central observer. He will be supported by Nayab Singh Saini as co-observer. Together, they will supervise the selection of the legislative party leader and facilitate the formation of the new state government.

Massive Mandate in Both States
The BJP delivered a sweeping performance in the assembly elections, winning 207 seats in West Bengal and 82 seats in Assam. The results mark a significant political milestone for the party, strengthening its presence in eastern and northeastern India.

Next Steps in Government Formation
With observers now appointed, the focus shifts to the formal election of legislative party leaders in both states. This process will determine the next chief ministers and pave the way for the formation of new governments. Party leadership has emphasised a smooth and timely transition following the electoral victory.
