A flood warning has been issued for the Jaleswar region in Balasore as two major rivers—Jalka and Baitarani—surpassed critical levels this morning, triggering high alert across the district.
According to reports, by 10 AM, the Jalka river was flowing at a concerning 7.20 meters at Mathani, while the Baitarani river breached its warning level, surging to 37.800 meters. The relentless rainfall in the upper catchment areas is believed to be the primary cause of the water level rise, increasing fears of imminent flooding in low-lying pockets.
Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into riverine or waterlogged zones. Local administrative units have been activated for emergency response, and evacuation plans are being reviewed for vulnerable areas.
The Meteorological Department has predicted continued heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, urging strict caution. With flood risks intensifying, district officials are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with state emergency units.
